Ideal for game days, casual dinners, or appetizers, these wings can be baked or fried according to your preference and are finished with a sticky, spicy glaze for irresistible taste.

Ingredients

For the Wings:

  • 2 pounds of chicken wings split into flats and drumettes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

For the Sweet and Spicy Glaze:

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup hot sauce (choose your favorite brand for desired heat)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Sliced green onions
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Wings: Rinse the chicken wings under cold water and pat them dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step is essential for achieving crispy skin. Then, in a large bowl, toss the wings with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to coat them evenly.
  2. Cook the Wings (Choose Baking or Frying Method):
Baking Method: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the wings on a wire rack positioned over a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Bake for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking, until the wings turn golden brown and develop crispy skin.
Frying Method: Heat oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C). Fry the wings in batches for 8-10 minutes until they are golden and fully cooked through. Once done, remove and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  3. Make the Sweet and Spicy Glaze: In a small saucepan, mix together honey, brown sugar, hot sauce, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper if using. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture starts to bubble and thickens slightly, which should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Toss the Wings in the Glaze: Transfer the cooked wings to a large mixing bowl. Pour the warm sweet and spicy glaze over the wings and toss thoroughly to ensure each wing is evenly coated with the flavorful sauce.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Optionally, garnish the glazed wings with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and chopped fresh cilantro for an extra pop of color and freshness. Serve immediately with your favorite sides and beverages.

Notes

  • The wings can be cooked either by baking or frying depending on your preferred method and available equipment.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce and cayenne pepper to control the level of spiciness.
  • Using a wire rack when baking helps the wings crisp up evenly by allowing air circulation.
  • For extra crispy skin when baking, pat wings completely dry before seasoning.
  • Serve with dipping sauces like ranch or blue cheese for additional flavor options.
