These easy Pepperoni Rolls feature fluffy, tender bread dough filled with classic mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they bake up golden and delicious, with a savory Italian seasoning touch. Serve them warm with pizza or marinara sauce for a satisfying bite that’s both comforting and flavorful.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed (thaw according to package directions)
  • 16 slices pepperoni, divided use
  • 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths, divided use
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning, divided use
  • 1 large egg, well beaten
  • splash of water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Tray: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large sheet tray with parchment paper and set it aside to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Portion the Dough: Place the thawed bread dough on a clean surface. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces to make uniform rolls.
  3. Flatten the Dough: Using your hands, flatten each dough piece into approximately a 4×4-inch square, creating a base for the filling.
  4. Add Pepperoni and Cheese: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each flattened dough piece. Then, add 2 slices of the cut mozzarella cheese on top of the pepperoni.
  5. Season the Filling: Sprinkle each filled dough piece with a pinch of Italian seasoning according to your taste preference.
  6. Roll and Seal: Fold the two outer edges of the dough over the filling, then tightly roll the dough into a log, pinching the seams to seal the roll thoroughly.
  7. Place on Tray: Position each roll seam side down onto the prepared sheet tray, spacing them so they do not touch.
  8. Brush with Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and a splash of water. Lightly brush this egg wash over the exposed dough on each roll to help them develop a golden, glossy crust.
  9. Bake: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the rolls to cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before serving. They are delicious warm and can be enjoyed plain or dipped in pizza or marinara sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add more pepperoni or mozzarella inside the rolls.
  • You can substitute mozzarella with provolone or your favorite melting cheese.
  • The Italian seasoning can be adjusted or replaced with Italian herb blends or dried oregano.
  • Ensure the dough seams are sealed well to prevent filling from leaking out during baking.
  • Serve with marinara or homemade pizza sauce for dipping.
